چکیده

We predict the existence of coupled plasmon-phonon excitations in graphene by using the self-consistent linear response formalism. The unique electron-phonon interaction in graphene leads to unconventional mixing of plasmon and optical phonon polarizations. We find that longitudinal plasmons couple exclusively to transverse optical phonons, whereas graphene’s transverse plasmons couple only to longitudinal optical phonons. This coupling can serve as a magnifier for exploring the electron-phonon interaction in graphene, and it offers electronical control over phonon frequencies.

Graphene-Hexagonal Boron Nitride Heterostructure as a Tunable Phonon–Plasmon Coupling System

The layered van der Waals (vdW) heterostructure, assembled from monolayer graphene, hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) and other atomic crystals in various combinations, is emerging as a new paradigm with which to attain desired electronic and optical properties. In this paper, we study theoretically the mid-infrared optical properties of the vdW heterostructure based on the graphene–h-BN system. T...

All-angle negative refraction of highly squeezed plasmon and phonon polaritons in graphene-boron nitride heterostructures.

A fundamental building block for nanophotonics is the ability to achieve negative refraction of polaritons, because this could enable the demonstration of many unique nanoscale applications such as deep-subwavelength imaging, superlens, and novel guiding. However, to achieve negative refraction of highly squeezed polaritons, such as plasmon polaritons in graphene and phonon polaritons in boron ...

Tunable Light-Matter Interaction and the Role of Hyperbolicity in Graphene-hBN System.

Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) is a natural hyperbolic material, which can also accommodate highly dispersive surface phonon-polariton modes. In this paper, we examine theoretically the mid-infrared optical properties of graphene-hBN heterostructures derived from their coupled plasmon-phonon modes. We find that the graphene plasmon couples differently with the phonons of the two Reststrahlen ban...

Terahertz Optoelectronic Property of Graphene: Substrate-Induced Effects on Plasmonic Characteristics

The terahertz plasmon dispersion of a multilayer system consisting of graphene on dielectric and/or plasma thin layers is systematically investigated. We show that graphene plasmons can couple with other quasiparticles such as phonons and plasmons of the substrate; the characteristics of the plasmon dispersion of graphene are dramatically modified by the presence of the coupling effect. The res...

Band structure and many body effects in graphene

We have determined the electronic bandstructure of clean and potassium-doped single layer graphene, and fitted the graphene π bands to a oneand three-near-neighbor tight binding model. We characterized the quasiparticle dynamics using angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The dynamics reflect the interaction between holes and collective excitations, namely plasmons, phonons, and electron-h...
